Sustaining Ministry

SUSTAINING MINISTRY

ALL MEETINGS CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

CAST YOUR BURDEN ON THE LORD AND HE WILL
SUSTAIN YOU; HE WILL NEVER PERMIT THE RIGHTEOUS TO BE MOVED
.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, it is the Sustaining Ministry’s charge to ensure the operation and maintenance of the internal workings of the church. Included in this ministry are administrative support provided by the Office Team, implementation and oversight of all financial activities by the Finance Team, property management by the Property Team and electronic maintenance of Membership records by the Membership Records Team.

The Office Team meets as needed throughout the year to prepare for the liturgical changes that take place during the year and to ensure that the Sunday liturgy booklets are prepared each week. Also preparation for the midweek services during Lent and Advent takes place. The Office team staffs the office Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until noon answering phone calls and assisting in the weekly needs of the Pastor and council.

The Finance Team meets monthly on the third Thursday to review the financial status of the congregation through reports by the Treasurer, the Financial Secretary and the Power Church + Administrator. Prior to the annual meeting in October, using inputs from the Ministries and teams, a preliminary budget is prepared and presented to council. In addition to an annual audit, the Audit Committee performs a monthly audit of both the Treasurer and the Financial Secretary records. Each month reports are prepared and presented to council including an Income and Expense Statement and a consolidated Balance sheet.

The Property Team meets the third Tuesday of each month to discuss the status of all physical structures and operating systems. If maintenance funds are required beyond the budget, proposals for the work required are prepared and presented to council. In addition this team will ensure that those repairs that are not within the skill set of the team are handled by licensed and insured outside contractors. Bi-annually the team conducts a “Clean the Lord’s House Day”, at which time volunteers from the congregation thoroughly clean the sanctuary, Luther Hall and the Narthex.

The Membership Records Team (MRT) was officially created by council on April 14, 2015 to manage the transition from traditional Red Book to electronic maintenance of membership records. For ten years CLC has used Power Church Plus, an integrated data system for our accounting, membership and activity information. Unfortunately the membership data had received insufficient attention. The initial focus of the team has been on accuracy of data and codes used to classify membership and involvement in the ministries of the church. Once data and codes are stabilized and standard procedures documented, the team will assist the Pastor, council members and others in extracting data and in the maintenance of the data into the future. The team initially consists of two experienced PC+ users. No regular meetings are held as all the work is handled electronically and through telephone calls.
